holiday surf and raquet club

Has anyone been to Holiday Surf and Raquet? We are looking for a beachfront condo but many are booked. We plan an August trip. Have the beached here been restored since the hurricane? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The beaches at Holiday Surf are not part of the renourishment project.

I don%26#39;t know when in August you are planning, but you will find more choices toward the end of the month, except of course, the holiday.

beachgrl36,

I was there in late May, and I recommend it...

Do you mind my asking why you recommend it? Especially if it isn%26#39;t part of the renourishment project.

Is there plenty of beach left?

Also, I notice that they give you two beach chairs and an umbrella with each rental. Did you have any problem with them all being taken?

Thanks.

ARMom,

The beaches have not been restored at Holiday Surf and Racquet Club and are plenty more narrow than they were before the storms last season. However, there is still a decent strip of beach directly in front of HSRC, A LOT better strip than say the Jetty East or Aegean.

We were there the week before Memorial Day weekend, so the condo wasn%26#39;t near the capacity of what it will be this summer, so it is hard to say how the beach will be able to handle all the tourists. However, I can tell you while we were there the beach service managed to get the majority of chair/umbrellas in one row. They did set up 8-10 umbrellas in a second row for the stragglers. I%26#39;ve been to Destin quite a few times and mainly stay on Holiday Isle, and I could tell no difference in the quality of the beach/gulf. The only difference is that there is less beach behind you as you are sitting in the chairs enjoying the scenery in front of you.

As far as getting chairs, we had two units and had no problems getting two sets of chairs/umbrellas together. They start setting up at 7-7:30 a.m., just get out there then and throw some towels on your chair to claim %26#39;em. But don%26#39;t be one of those people who reserve a prime spot just to spend an hour or two at the beach...;)

Keep in mind, all this was before prime summer season, so I%26#39;m not sure how it will be handled as the condo gets more and more busy. Otherwise, the tennis courts and shuffelboard were completed while we were there, the grills are nice, the grounds are kept very clean and the staff are great. Plenty of laundry facilities and an efficient linen exchange as well.

I%26#39;d recommend HSRC to anyone...

Play18, thanks so much. That reassures me a little. We will be there at the height of the season (July 4 week). I hope it%26#39;s wonderful!! This is our first trip back in 10 years. The last time we didn%26#39;t stay on Holiday Isle, but a little further down the coast.

Armom, I was down on Holiday Isle last year on the 4th of July week and I never seen it sooo crowded. We had never been down over the 4th and was really surprised at the crowdes.

We just returned from there this morning. It was nice. Not a 4-star hotel, but clean. The beach there was GREAT!! They are gaining more and more beach everyday. We went with two small children and they loved it. The pool is nice and clean. The beach is not a far walk from the pool. We rented room 312 through the owner. Beach front, one bedroom, nice. If you rent through the hotel itself you will get free beach chairs and setup. If not it is $20 a day. I would stay again.

This places seems to not get great reviews on here. We are looking into staying here in October. How annoying is the screened in balcony? I have never stayed at a place that did this. Is the pool large? Any other helpful info. is appreciated. We are really debating staying here or The Islander (I stayed there a few months ago.) or going into Ft. Walton.

Is the Aegean open yet?

In late May, the Aegean had a TON of work left still, but by now I%26#39;d bet they are close to finishing up.

I will say that the beach there was pretty much non-existant. You get off the wooden walkway and you are literally two feet from the water line. Not much beach there at all.

On the flip-side, the best strip of beach on Holiday Isle that I saw was in front of the Inlet Reef Club and Destin on the Gulf.
