We have been in October our first and only trip to WDW so far. Weather great, crowds fine, had a great time. Looking for input about weather and crowds in January....from the north and used to bitter cold and snow in January. Loved October but a very busy month for family. Anyone who has been a lot during these months, would appreciate input. Are we talking jeans or parkas? Crowds? Want to go late January. Help appreciated from the veterans of DW! Also, POR or All Star Movies suites? Family bringing four kids! 6 total...Thanks!
January or October weather crowds?
The weather in January is cool during the day (long sleeve shirt weather) and chilly at night (you%26#39;ll need a jacket). We usually get our coldest weather in February, but it can freeze in January if it%26#39;s an unusually cold winter up north. Bring clothes you can layer.
MLK weekend is the busiest time in January. The rest of the month is usually not crowded, unless there happens to be a big convention in town.
With a total of six people, you will need two rooms at either the value or moderate resorts. The All Star Suites would be a good alternative, and also include a kitchenette. But keep in mind that if you get two regular rooms, everyone will be sleeping in a regular bed. If you get the suite, the kids will be sleeping on fold out chairs and sofas. Good rest is important to enjoying the parks, so it%26#39;s something to think about. If it were me, I would get two regular rooms at POR instead of the suite. The only thing you would really be missing would be the microwave, as each moderate room has a refrigerator.
January or October weather crowds?
Having been to Disney 6 times in the last 14 years, I would have to say the trip my family left for on january 2 one year was the best! We arrived in the afternoon and went to the Magic Kingdom for a few hours to start- we were walking in and swarms of kiddies were headed out and home to get ready for back to school the next day. During the rest of our week we practically walked right onto every ride- I think our longest wait for anything was about 5 minutes. NO problem getting meal times or anything else. one caution, sometimes they do close a water park this time of year for refurbishment, but there are always other park options. As for weather- jeans and t-shirts or shorts and a sweatshirt type of stuff will generally be fine in the daytime. You never know when a cold day will breeze through so it doesn%26#39;t hurt to take pants and pack a sweater just in case (or for nighttime). Being from Maine, we were pretty well unfazed by the cooler January weather (even swam every day, which caused a number of Florida resident employees to look at us a bit funny). I%26#39;ve been in October as well, and as far as I can remember, the weather was not terribly different from when we were there in January. My family has long ago decided that January is THE time to go- you feel like a superstar owning the place there are so few people around. It%26#39;s Great!
Hi - Our family was there this past January/Feruary and the weather was great. During the day we had 70 and 80 degree weather , the nights were cool on some days although that did not stop us from swimming. Our 8 year old son loved the hot tu at the wilderness lodge and our 4 year old loved swimming in the pool as did our 8 year old. The lines were not an issue there were none. The longest we waited for was Dumo and Soarin and that was only 20 minutes max. This was our second trip in January and we will do it again in 2008. Just keep in mind that January is unpredictale with the weather . We were lucky and even if it is cold who cares there is no lines! Have a great trip.
We%26#39;ve been there in Oct. %26amp; Jan - I preferred the weather in October. It was a little chilly when we were there in Jan - 60%26#39;s. But the crowds are nearly non-existant in Jan. and rates can be really low.
If you stay at POR, you%26#39;ll need 2 rooms. All-Star movies doesn%26#39;t have suites yet that I know about. But you can get connecting rooms and it can be cheaper than the suite but you won%26#39;t have a frig %26amp; microwave.
The suites are at All-Star Music:

Allearsnet.com recommends the Doubletree Guest Suites, which accomodate six. See http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_dtree.
Compare with mousesavers.com%26#39;s rate: mousesavers.com/dtguestsuites.html#dtrates
I don%26#39;t know how this affects transportation though. Are you driving or flying? If you fly, the Disney Magical Express and the park buses are a distinct advantage. See:
