visas, please help

Just reading a topic concerning visas for uk visitors to US and I am now in a state of panic. We are due to travel in 3 weeks time and all have the new type of passports, so I thought we would all qualify for the Visa Waiver Programme. Reading the topic set me thinking as in 1993 my husband was taken in for questioning by the police (accusations made by my exhusband that I%26#39;d rather not go into) but he was released with no convictions. We are not sure if this qualifies as %26#39;being arrested%26#39; and if it does from what I have read he would need to apply for a visa, BUT would we get it through in time. As we were involved with a childcare committee he had to obtain a Crimminal Record Bureau check in 1994, which looks into any convictions and there were no problems then. Not sure if I should ring embassey or just hope for the best. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

Thanks Allie

visas, please help

hi

i am also traveling out to florida in june and my boyfriend has been arrested for dui 2 years ago.

i phoned the embassy and they said if you have ever been arested and or convicted you need to go to your local police station for some type of check then it takeds40 days to get an appoitment at the us embassy to apply for the visa.

i am in a panic as WE DONT HAVE TIME TO APPLY FOR THIS VISA SO I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY FRIENDS TO JUST TICK NO ON THE VISA WAIVER FORM ON THE PLANE WHEN IT ASKS IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN ARRESTED ETC.

APPARENTLEY THEY WONT BE ABLE TO TELL .

GOOG LUCK.

visas, please help

You will be fingerprinted and have your photo taken when you go through immigaration though and they may check against a data bank here.

Hi there we are waiting on an an appointment with the embassy as hubby has a careless driving charge. Your best bet would be to get the subject access form from your local police station. It will cost 拢10 and does say it takes up to 40 days but shouldnt take near this long. This will list all convictions. If this comes back clear then you can rest easy as there is nothing on record about your hubby. If it does show something then its up to you to risk it or not. Heaps of people, with convictions, say they have been through customs and just walked through immigration with no problems and then you do get the odd horror story of people being turned arround.....

Hope this helps a wee bit :-/

Hi, well I spent a lot of time agonising over what to do, but in the end decided to ignore it and do nothing. Glad we did, got in with no probs whatsoever and I am sure there would have been loads of probs trying to get a visa beforehand as it sounded very complicated. Obviously every situation is different, but for us it was better to do nothing, hope it works out for you.

Bobblehead, just wondered if your boyfriend had any problems gaining entry to the usa without a visa back in June? Thanks .
