Hi, I don%26#39;t know if anyone can help? I%26#39;ve read somewhere that if you travel to Florida with Antibiotics you need a cover note from the Doctor, has anyone heard of this? My son is on long term Antibiotics for acne, i have just been talking to the nurse and she laughed at me saying that it is nonsense, Am i wrong? Also i heard that you are not allowed to take in Paracetomel either, again maybe i%26#39;m wrong, does anyone know?
Antibiotics?
I live in the US, but fly in and out of Florida often. I take many prescriptions with me and as long as they are in the bottle/tube/with the label attached there isn%26#39;t a problem.
Just wanted to add, I was on Acne medicine for quite awhile. Both topical and oral. BE VERY careful in the Florida sun. It is not a good mix with most acne medicines.
I hope someone from the UK can help you with the rules from there to Florida.
Antibiotics?
There aren%26#39;t any regulations specific to Florida that I%26#39;m aware of -- and I%26#39;ve been here for 22 years.
It is, however, *always* a good idea to keep prescription meds in their original package, with the pharmacy label intact -- prescription medications are often sold in different countries under different brand names, and having the label ensures that everyone knows that the contents are legitimately prescribed and medically necessary -- and helps identify the meds. (I keep all my scripts in their original packaging when leaving the US, too...)
Paracetemol is, to my knowledge, completely legal to bring into the States. It%26#39;s sold here under the trade name Tylenol (among others).
I%26#39;ll echo the strong caution about increased sun sensitivity with any medication -- make sure you wear lots of sunscreen and drink plenty of fluids --
and enjoy your hols!
Thank you both for your advice, I%26#39;m going back to the GP next week to ask him if it%26#39;s ok for him to stop the antibiotics ( they%26#39;re not having an effect anyway and he%26#39;s been on them a year! ), that way he can enjoy his holiday without worrying. Once again thank you x
Make sure you ask the GP how long the antibiotics will affect sun sensitivity (if at all) -- I seem to recall being told to stay out of the sun for a couple of weeks after stopping some types of antibiotics.
