My husband and I will heading to Key West for our first time, over Labor Day weekend. We%26#39;re always in search of the BEST Pina Colada (fresh ingredients, not the stuff from mixes, with fresh pineapple, finely shredded coconut and a cherry, of course!)
Any suggestions?
Best Pina Colada in Key West
I know no one else has responded yet but for the life of me I can%26#39;t think of any place that does those. I%26#39;m sure you can get the pre-mixed stuff but I%26#39;ve never noticed anyone ordering one. You may want to check out Fat Tuesday , The Flying Monkey or The Lazy Gecko...again all pre-mixed stuff.
Best Pina Colada in Key West
Maybe one of the ';nicer'; places would have it? A%26amp;, Alonzo%26#39;s, L%26#39;Attititudes, Rooftop Cafe, etc? I know Conch Farm%26#39;s is premixed (Coco Colada). Hmmm... good question!
sorry - that should have read A%26amp;B
Sounds like you can (should) organize a task force to make preliminary recommendations to the ';fresh pina colada'; committee, which in turn can prepare a report to share with the entire community regarding the proposed topic.
Ouch my head hurts from writing that.
Well, I SUPPOSE I can take it upon myself to do a lot of research on this topic while I%26#39;m down there. . . Undoubtedly it will be VERRRY taxing on me, but if it can benefit anyone else in the future, it will be worth it (sigh). . . !
I think I will start training now at home to prepare myself.
As a member-in-good-standing ($15.00 lifetime) of the Hemingway look-a-like society, I just received the June newsletter. It has a big list of favorite restaurants which I will post tomorrow, and a list of favorite bars, and their favorite all-arouond bars are the Hald-Shell and Turtle Kraals...
Best Happy Hour - Conch Republic Seafood Co. (I like Kelly%26#39;s and Alonzo%26#39;s)
Best martini - Bagatelle and Virgilo%26#39;s (Louies used to make a golden martini which would knock me on my mule)
Best Ocean Front Bar - Louies after dark (see?)
Best Harbourview Bar - Turtle Kraals tower bar
Best Sports Bar - Lazy Gecko (If you are a Boston Fan)
Best Frozen Drinks - Lazy Gecko (Is a Pino Colada frozen?)
Best Draft Beer - Finnigan%26#39;s Wake (I like Sloopy Joes for Sunset Ale)
Best Music - Schooner Wharf, Hogg%26#39;s Breath, Green Parrot)

I think most places use mixes iw ould say the quality of the mix makes the difference... so a good mix makes a good pina colada -- and those fast dispensing Island Oasis machines don%26#39;t
that said -- best Pina Colada we hd (and we did lots of research over the years) was at Louie%26#39;s a few years ago not recent so not sure.
Good luck on the hunt !!
The best one I have had in Key West was at Capt. Tony%26#39;s. We are leaving for KW tomorrow evening, and Capt. Tony%26#39;s Pina Colada is one of the first stops we have scheduled when we arrive! ;)
Don%26#39;t forget the dark rum floater on top
The Hilton -- or is it *previously* the Hilton now? -- sells a very fresh Pina Colada out on its deck around sunset. You definitely need to add a floater, though, because while the ingredients are fresh, the rum isn%26#39;t as plentiful as it should be.
As far as mixes go, I%26#39;d say Flying Monkey is probably the best.
