Which is better beach - Ft. Myers Beach or Siesta Key?

Trying to determine which area we want to stay for our vacation. Which do you think is a better beach for laying in the sun and swimming in the ocean? Why? Are there other beaches that are better?

thanks

I suppose different people will have different preferences. However, based on what you said in your post, I think you would probably enjoy Siesta Key. Although it is ';developed';, I think it is far less developed than Ft. Myers Beach. The sand is absolutely first rate...gorgeous white quartz (be sure to stay on CRESCENT beach.) The slope into the water is very gradual...you can walk out quite far with no problem. Siesta still retains a bit of island village flavor.

Ft. Myers reminds me more of a hurly burly vacation spot for people who like to do lots of different things in addition to beach time. I suspect teens might prefer it for that reason. If you choose Ft. Myers, you may want to plan some time to visit Lovers Key State Park near there as well.

I have been to both areas - Cresent Beach on Siesta Key is my preference by far!!!

Siesta Key...hands down....have only been to Ft. Myers beach couple time..was crowded and just a flim of sun lotion in the water...just my view that was years ago...could be different now...we a are diehard crescent beach family...

I have been to both several times. Definitely Siesta Key. YOu can%26#39;t beat the white sands....also a better area (I think). I agree with prior posts that Ft Meyers is more teen oriented. Siesta also has access to better dining and shopping.

Siesta Key would be my vote instead of Ft Meyers. The sand is awsome and it seemed so much more laid back.

I%26#39;ve been to both and have to agree with the other posters. Siesta Key is by far the prettier beach. The sand is like baby powder.

According to the Travel Channel, they just rated Siesta Key the #2 beach in FL, just behind South Beach. What more can I say?

We%26#39;ve been to both and much prefer Siesta Key. Yes, it%26#39;s laid back on Siesta, but we have kids that like to be on the go, and I like the fact that it%26#39;s easy on / easy off the island if you want to go to town for shopping, dining, and other activities. At Ft. Meyers beach, we found ourselves sitting forever in traffic trying to take the long, winding journey off the island and over to other area activities.

Crescent Beach on Siesta Key is an awesome beach. I%26#39;m an avid traveler and have had the blessing of visiting many beaches (Hawaii, Hilton Head, and many in FL) and I rate it top-notch!

In early December We are planning to fly into Orlando, maybe disney for a day, visit some friends and relatives in the area and then head down to Ft.Meyers for a few days. I couldn%26#39;t decide on diamondhead, gullwing, or Lovers Key. By reading thru tripadvisor I am now wondering whether we should stay at Siesta Key or Sanibel. Any suggetions on great accomdations at Siesta Key? We like more laid back quiet areas. Beachfront possible small condo.

I once asked a gentleman in Fort Myers, from whom I was considering renting a condominium, to compare Fort Myers and Siesta Key. He said that he would really like to rent his condo, but that comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges, and that Siesta Key is unique in Florida...I agree with him! I personally would not take a beach vacation anywhere else, because I know that it would most likely fall short of Siesta Key...the only drawback to Siesta Key is red tide, though this can happen anywhere. Last year, it was particularly nasty. (...and of course, hurricanes, but again...can happen anywhere)
