Where in Florida should my husband and son go camping. They have a canoe, like fishing, hicking, swimming, tent camping with lots of shade.
We live in Tampa.
Thanks
Camping for father and son
I%26#39;m not a camper myself, but my neighborhood has had family camping trips in the past. The last one was at Kelly Park/Rock Springs. I thing it%26#39;s in the Apopka area northwest of Orlando and everyone said they had a good time. It may be worth looking into.

Look at www.floridastateparks.org for info. on camping and the other activities they are looking for.
Right down the road from you, Ft. Desoto State Park in St. Pete. Close to everything yet far away from everything. Great camping, biking, fishing, kayaking.....and plenty of shade for them and the tent. 275 South to Pinellas Bayway exit.
Check out Myakka State Park near Sarasota. I%26#39;ve read alot of good reviews about this the oldest state park in Florida. I plan to visit my next trip to Fl.
I%26#39;d recommend heading inland, somewhere between Sebring and Ocala. My favorite places: Anywhere in the Ocala National Forest, Silver Springs State Park (Ocala) and Highlands Hammock State Park (Sebring). That said, there are a plethora of state parks and state and national forests in that area that would fulfill their goals, and even though it%26#39;s only a couple of hours away from your home, it%26#39;s a totally different ecosystem.
Another thought would be Fisheating Creek, a state campground in either Hendry or Glades. It%26#39;s a treasure.
