house boat

Hi,

we are thinking of traveling to the keys in feb of next year and are debating whether to stay in a houseboat or a condo. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Also, not sure if the houseboats are located in a place where walking to other sites is possible?

Thanks

Ruthie

I think I%26#39;d be a little cautious about staying on a houseboat. You%26#39;re renting from an individual and pictures aren%26#39;t always accurate indicators of what you%26#39;d be getting. In addition, you wouldn%26#39;t want to be moored anyplace but at Key West Bight, which would put you in a perfect location, and I%26#39;m not sure that that%26#39;s where the houseboat rentals are.

I agree w/susan. Rooms on a houseboat might be pretty small--plus you might have to take Dramamine daily. There are plenty of great places to stay, and you can get on a sunset cruise if you need to be on the water.

My wife and I had thought about doing this too a few years ago as we both love the water. The only thing that made us change our minds was the small bathroom onboard.

I also just checked http://keywest.com/boatrental.html and the boat we had looked into before is no longer listed as well as any other boat.

Thanks for your replies. The housboat we were thinking of renting is docked at Garrison Bight? I guess they are near/at the Harborside Hotel? Does that sound okay? We have time to look and are just researching the best place to stay this winter.

thanks again!

Garrison Bight isn%26#39;t in a very convenient location. You%26#39;d definitely need some sort of transportation to navigate the island easily. If I were you, I%26#39;d consider staying someplace else.

thanks so much for your advice. Any ideas? I think we want to be kind of near activities, but not too close as to be noisy.

Would a condo be a better bet?

Thanks again
