January Golf Getaway - Where to Go?

Hello everyone,

I am looking to send my DH on a 3-4 night golf getaway in January. It is a surprise. I plan to send him and his brother from the DC area. Looking for a 4*-5* golf resort for them. I know nothing about golf so could use some expert input and suggestions.

Many thanks!

bump - trying one more time :-)

January Golf Getaway - Where to Go?

The World Golf Village in St. Augustine is a mecca for golfers and has a number of courses and resorts- many of them quite luxurious. My only caution would be that that area of Florida can get quite chilly in January- but maybe since you live in Winchester ( I%26#39;m a JMU grad) temps in the 40%26#39;s wouldn%26#39;t bother him.

Further south in Florida both the Breakers and the Boca Raton Hotel and Club are quite upscale with prices to match.

I know the Naples, Florida area has a lovely Ritz Carlton Golf Resort ( they also have a second Ritz Carlton in the town as well) as well as several other top rated hotels- you might check the Naples reviews.

I%26#39;m not a golfer but my Significant Other is, so I%26#39;ll try to pick his brain this weekend.

The Westin Innisbrook Resort is a fabulous golf resort in Palm Harbor, about 20 minutes NE of Tampa. Beautiful courses. Reasonable rates on Westin.com if you book in advance.

Funny I should find you here. Spring Lake Golf Resort in Sebring, Florida may be your answer. The resort has two wonderful champioinship courses, one 9 hole course, villa accommodations, restaurants and may have an opening. You can check them out at www.springlakegolf.com and tell them Ed sent you.

try suthern dunes near orlando, look at www.irishfloridavilla.com for details, the golf is excellent and not overcrowed, lots of other courses nearby.

You MUST look into the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club Resort in St. Petersburg. Check out the user photos posted for it on TripAdvisor. You can%26#39;t go wrong with the Vinoy.

I would recommend the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie. It%26#39;s about 1 hour north of West Palm Beach right off Rte. 95. There are condo type accomodations and three courses right onsite. Weather would probably be warmer in January than St. Augustine area. It%26#39;s a real nice resort.

Thanks everyone! Will check these out. I am leaning towards staying further south as January around Orlando and other more north areas is a bit unpredictable. Tell me if I%26#39;m wrong.

Take a look at Rotonda West on the SW gulf coast just north of fort myers. 4 golf courses in deed restricted community with 20 other courses within 30 min. drive. Many lovely rental homes with private pools available. It is south of Sarasota and therefore has milder temps. I have a vacation rental home in Rotonda and it has a golf package for my guests. Check out some of the rental sites such as vacationhomerentals.com- Good Luck

Orlando is cooler than areas south, but warmer than areas north. I%26#39;m not sure if we got into the 30%26#39;s temperature wise or not the last January, but it is possible. It also did hit 80 a couple of times in Orlando last January. Walt Disney World has 99 holes of golf, including the Magnolia and Palm courses which are used for the PGA Tour%26#39;s Funai Classic Tournament every October (a tournament which Tiger Woods has won twice; maybe you%26#39;ve heard of him), as well as a Tom Fazio course and a Pete Dye course (trust me; if they know golf, they know who Tom Fazio and Pete Dye are; they%26#39;re premier designers). No theme parks on the courses, either, though they%26#39;re not far away. There%26#39;s also, near Walt Disney World, Grand Cypress Golf Club, which features 45 holes of Jack Nicklaus golf, including the New Course, a tribute to the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland, which is the oldest golf course in the world (500 years old), and is currently the #3 ranked course in the world (the Scotland one, not the Orlando one). To play these courses, you would have to put them up at either the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, a 750 room hotel, or at the Villas of Grand Cypress, which features accomodations directly on the golf courses.

There%26#39;s also the Doral Resort and Country Club in Miami.
